Booking.com, the leading global travel company, operates a vast network of online travel services, including brands like Booking.com, Priceline, and Kayak.

The Challenge

With a presence in over 220 countries, Booking.com, part of Booking Holdings, manages numerous offices around the world. In Amsterdam, the company originally maintained 14 separate office buildings to accommodate its rapidly growing workforce.  

As the organization expanded, it became evident that fostering collaboration and communication across departments was challenging with such a dispersed office setup. To address this, Booking.com decided to consolidate its Amsterdam-based workforce, consisting of around 7,000 employees, into a single state-of-the-art office building. This move was part of a broader strategy to enhance departmental collaboration and streamline operations.

While planning and executing the massive transition, Booking.com explored various software solutions to manage hybrid work and optimize the employee experience, especially given the complexities introduced by the COVID-19 pandemic. After testing different options, the company selected Mapiq, the leading workplace experience platform, to manage it’s new workspace.  

The solution

Mapiq provided Booking.com with crucial data through people count sensors, enabling them to effectively utilize the 3,000 desks and 532 diverse meeting rooms in the new building. These meeting rooms included standard meeting spaces, phone booths, collaboration rooms, an auditorium, interview rooms, and learning hubs.

The data-driven insights from Mapiq allowed Booking.com to efficiently accommodate its 7,000 employees, ensuring that the transition to a single office building not only met the company’s needs but also enhanced overall collaboration and productivity.
